U.S. President Donald Trump could announce South Korea's investment projects in the U.S., including a $54 billion investment in the Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project, as early as the 30th local time, Reuters reported.
Citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, the news agency reported this on the 29th.
The South Korean government recently reported to the National Assembly that it will pursue the construction of a combined-cycle gas power plant in Encinal, Texas, as the first project of its $200 billion strategic investment in the U.S., while classifying the construction of eight large nuclear reactors in the U.S. and the Alaska LNG development project as matters for future consultation.
If Reuters' report is accurate, it is drawing attention as President Trump is likely to announce South Korea's investment in the Alaska LNG development project as a fait accompli.
Alaska is classified as a swing state ahead of the midterm elections in early November.
Last year, South Korea promised a total of $350 billion in investments in the U.S., including shipbuilding cooperation ($150 billion) and strategic investments ($200 billion), on the condition of lowering tariffs from 25% to 15%.
