The leadership of the People Power Party visited Baengnyeong Island in Incheon on Tuesday (September 29) to inspect frontline defense readiness and encourage troops.
After honoring fallen patriotic souls by laying flowers and burning incense at the Memorial Tower for the 46 Warriors of the Cheonan, the leadership visited the 6th Marine Brigade.
People Power Party Leader Jang Dong-hyeok emphasized, "Just as during the attack on the Cheonan, there was a landmine explosion suspected to have been planted by North Korea not long ago. Public anxiety is growing as North Korean provocations continue," adding, "Even so, seeing all of you gives me great reassurance. The Marine Corps is a strategic asset of the Republic of Korea."
Leader Jang said, "Many must have felt this from the recent landmine explosion incident," adding, "Our troops risk their lives to defend the Republic of Korea, but who will protect their safety? I believe ensuring the safety of our service members is the duty of the Republic of Korea."
He continued, "The People Power Party will do its utmost to honor our troops and improve service conditions so that they can serve comfortably," and delivered a consolation fund.
After lunch, Leader Jang visited Observation Post (OP) 807 and an artillery battalion, where he was briefed by the commander of the 6th Brigade on unit conditions and operational readiness.
After inspecting weapons systems including the 'Bigung' guided rocket, the K-239 'Cheonmu' multiple launch rocket system, and counter-battery radars, he offered words of encouragement, saying, "We will put our faith solely in you for the northwestern border islands."
Lawmakers Lim I-ja, Bae June-young, Jeong Hee-yong, Kim Jang-gyom, Park Jun-tae, Park Choong-kwon, Seo Cheon-ho, Yoo Young-ha, and Lim Jong-deuk also took part in the itinerary on Baengnyeong Island on this day.
