President Lee Jae-myung stated, "We can never stop this reform simply because resistance grows or backlash increases," adding, "We will be evaluated by the public through actions, not words, and will take responsibility through results."
Presiding over the 42nd Cabinet meeting at Cheong Wa Dae today (September 29), President Lee said, "To create a better life for the public, reforms to improve flawed systems, institutions, and practices must also continue without interruption."
He continued, "Reform is about correcting vested interests, abnormalities, and irrationalities entrenched across our society to create a fair and reasonable world where everyone enjoys equal opportunities," noting, "Because it involves changing all institutions, practices, and cultures designed to benefit a powerful few, they say reform is even more difficult than revolution."
President Lee emphasized, "However, turning away from a disease because it is difficult to cure leads to even greater trouble," stressing, "We can never stop this reform simply because resistance grows or backlash increases."
He added, "In particular, for reform to succeed, the understanding and participation of more people are needed," adding, "Because reform entails pain, we must pursue 'lifestyle reform' pragmatically and efficiently, meticulously and as quietly as possible, comforting the pain of those who have to concede their rights."
As the reason, President Lee said, "Only when the collective intelligence of the public joins in can the direction of reform become clearer, and the momentum of reform can endure that much longer."
He also pledged, "Reform that changes people's lives and brightens the nation's future is the identity and raison d'être of our government," promising, "No matter how difficult and tough it may be, I will surely fulfill the calling given by our sovereign people to achieve irreversible reform across society."
President Lee concluded by saying, "We will be evaluated by the public through actions, not words, and will take responsibility through results," adding, "I believe the people will join us on the path of livelihood reform and integration pursued by this government of popular sovereignty."
Earlier, two days ago on September 27, President Lee also wrote on his social media, "Participation and small actions create a reformed world," adding, "The public's interest and encouragement, especially the participation and actions of 'President's Friends,' are essential."
