BTS has claimed three awards at the MTV Video Music Awards, considered one of the four major American popular music awards. BLACKPINK member Lisa also won the Best Pop category, demonstrating the powerful global presence of K-pop.

The title track "Swim" from BTS's album "Arirang," released about three years later, won the grand prize equivalent "Song of the Year" at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The awards ceremony, known alongside the Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards as one of the four major U.S. pop music awards, is mostly decided by fan voting. This marks the first time BTS has received the Song of the Year award.
Last year, BLACKPINK member ROSE won Song of the Year with "The Apartment Job," a collaboration with Bruno Mars.

BTS swept the Best K-Pop and Best Group categories as well, securing a total of three awards.
Unable to attend the ceremony due to their schedule, BTS shared their gratitude through their agency, saying, "'Arirang' is an album that feels like a new beginning, which makes this award even more meaningful," and adding, "We thank everyone who has loved our music."
