Citing what they consider morality or social norms, they interfere in other people's romantic relationships, clothing, and behavior, imposing private sanctions.

Indian authorities clearly classify the private sanctions by these self-proclaimed moral police as illegal, and some regions have even established dedicated response units to crack down on them.

However, controversy persists as some individuals still claim that their actions are "meant to uphold morality."
