▲ Vacancy Rate Reaches Highest Level Since 2021
The commercial vacancy rate in Sejong has surpassed 20%, marking the highest figure and remaining the only region to do so among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
According to data submitted by the Korea Real Estate Board to Representative Hwang Hee of the Democratic Party of Korea, who serves on the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, on September 28, the vacancy rate for general commercial properties in Sejong stood at 22.79% in the second quarter of this year, which is 9.43 percentage points higher than the national average of 13.36%.
The vacancy rate for general commercial properties in Sejong rose by 7.23 percentage points over a five-year period from 15.56% in the first quarter of 2021, recording its highest level since 2021.
In particular, the vacancy rate for medium and large commercial buildings was tallied at 29.68%, surging 11.33 percentage points from 18.35% in the first quarter of 2021.
Meanwhile, the vacancy rate for general commercial properties in Daejeon rose from 13.14% in the first quarter of 2021 to 13.37% in the second quarter of this year, while South Chungcheong Province saw an increase from 13.54% to 14.13% over the same period.
Representative Hwang stated, "Vacancy statistics should serve as foundational data to go beyond merely showing current conditions and to timely identify changes in commercial districts and policy demands." He added, "More detailed analysis and responses are necessary so that policies supporting small business owners and reviving the livelihood economy can operate in alignment with actual economic conditions."
