Singer WOODZ (real name Cho Seung-youn) has directly refuted reports that he will star in a Japanese film set against the backdrop of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, stating they are untrue.
During a live broadcast on the afternoon of the 27th, WOODZ drew a line against reports from the previous day claiming he was scheduled to appear in the South Korea-Japan joint production film "Tamako." Previously, an outlet reported that WOODZ would star in the project alongside actors Shim Eun-kyung and Sakura Ando.
The project is known to deal with the story of a boy who loses his parents to the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945, follows a Zainichi Korean to South Korea, and subsequently experiences the Korean War. Following the reports, critical public sentiment arose online surrounding the subject matter of the work.
During the live broadcast, WOODZ explained, "After receiving the script and understanding the content, I carefully conveyed my opinion to my agency, and reports came out after I had already decided to decline the appearance following much deliberation." Regarding the reason he could not issue a statement right away, he explained, "I had a concert schedule yesterday, and I didn't expect it to escalate to this extent."
Addressing his fans, he once again expressed his hope that there would be no misunderstandings regarding turning down the film, saying, "Please do not worry. I will continue to proceed with everything while thinking carefully, pondering, and trying to stay well-informed."
As actor Cho Seung-youn, WOODZ has been cast in the film "Nambul" (directed by Lee Mo-gae), which aims to crank in during the second half of the year. "Nambul" is a hard-boiled martial arts action film about nine warriors of varying abilities and social classes in the early Joseon Dynasty who head to Tsushima Island to rescue captives kidnapped by Japanese raiders. Cho Seung-youn has been cast in the role of "Cheotnom," a sharpshooting archer. In addition, he will hold his world tour encore concert "2026 WOODZ WORLD TOUR Archive. 1 : Completed" at KSPO DOME (Olympic Gymnastics Arena) in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on October 31 and November 1.
