Despite strong performances by Tom Kim and Im Sung-jae, the United States captured the Presidents Cup trophy.
Playing on the final day of the tournament in the singles match play held at Course No. 3 (par 70) of Medinah Country Club in Chicago, Illinois, U.S., on September 28 (KST), Tom Kim of the International Team secured a 3-and-2 victory over the U.S. team's Wyndham Clark.
Im Sung-jae also raised the International Team's hopes of winning by defeating Sam Burns 3 and 2 with one hole remaining.
However, the powerhouse U.S. team secured successive victories in the remaining singles matches to win with a final score of 17-13, bringing its all-time record to 14 wins, 1 tie, and 1 loss.
The International Team entered the final day's matches leading the U.S. team by 3 points, but ultimately failed to overcome the formidable hurdle.
The performance of Kim Si-woo, who served as the ace of the International Team throughout the tournament, was also disappointing.
Kim Si-woo held a 2-hole lead over U.S. rookie Jackson Koivun into the middle of the match, but suffered a comeback defeat by 2 holes.
This loss pushed the International Team behind at 12.5-14.5.
It was Jacob Bridgeman, making his first Presidents Cup appearance alongside Koivun, who clinched the victory for the U.S. team.
Bridgeman narrowly defeated Australia's Min Woo Lee of the International Team by 1 hole in a close match, securing the 15.5 points needed for victory.
