Schools in Saudi Arabia's Riyadh Switch to Remote Learning for a Week Amid Continuing Houthi Attacks

Schools in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, have switched to remote learning for a week amid continuing attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

According to AFP, citing local time on the 27th, schools in Riyadh sent emails to parents informing them that in-person classes would be suspended and remote learning would be implemented starting that day.

The schools explained in the email that the suspension of in-person classes was a measure taken in accordance with a decision by Saudi authorities.

However, Saudi authorities did not disclose the reason for the switch to remote learning.

Parents in Riyadh expressed bewilderment over the sudden notification of the transition to online classes.

One parent stated, "If a decision affects all students for a week, the reason should be explained clearly and transparently."

This measure comes as the Houthi rebels have stepped up their attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.

The Houthi rebels have escalated their level of attacks against Saudi Arabia since a years-long truce broke down in July.

The Saudi-led coalition announced the previous day that it had intercepted a drone and a ballistic missile targeting Saudi Arabia.

According to the United Nations Security Council, recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have injured civilians, including women and children.
