People Power Party Leader Jang Dong-hyeok held a press conference at the National Assembly this morning (September 27), stating, "If I were to sum up public sentiment this Chuseok in one word, it is touch-and-go," and demanded, "Immediately stop the extortion of farmland, the extortion of real estate, and the looting of public assets."
Regarding the government's complete inspection of farmland, Representative Jang criticized, "There were so many people pleading, 'Why is the president taking away my land?' and begging us to stop it," adding, "Is ruining farmers' livelihoods just to catch a handful of speculators this government's agricultural policy?"
Turning to the government's real estate policy, Representative Jang urged, "President Lee claimed it was 'price stabilization' even though prices in all other areas skyrocketed while Gangnam housing prices dropped just a fraction," adding, "Right now, ordinary working-class people are losing sleep worrying about monthly and jeonse rent, while homeowners are trembling over tax bombs. I urge the president to stop watching left-wing real estate YouTube channels claiming housing prices will drop and make a major shift in real estate policy."
Representative Jang also criticized the government over a landmine explosion incident, remarking, "Even though North Korea's involvement is obvious to anyone, [the government] is consistently remaining tight-lipped," and regarding the issue of repatriating North Korean prisoners of war in Ukraine to South Korea, he commented, "They tried to conceal it because it would displease Kim Jong Un."
When asked whether he would launch outdoor protest rallies, which he had previously said he would decide on after listening to public sentiment during Chuseok, Representative Jang replied, "Numerous issues have piled up," adding, "We will watch a bit more closely how the president and the Democratic Party act going forward."
