Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on the 26th (local time) that the country's new peace plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz has been coordinated with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
According to excerpts from President Pezeshkian's interview with U.S. broadcaster CBS released by Iran's state-run IRNA news agency, he stated, "If the United States accepts the proposal and fulfills its obligations, we will do the same."
Emphasizing that "coordination with the leader of the revolution (the Supreme Leader) has already been completed," he made it clear that this plan to open the Strait of Hormuz represents the consensus of Iran's leadership.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transportation, has been a central flashpoint in the military tensions between the United States and Iran, which have lasted for nearly seven months.
President Pezeshkian explained that a special six-member team composed of representatives from the military, parliament, and government has been formed for these discussions, and they hold full authority to make decisions regarding the peace plan.
As conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has demanded that the U.S. side lift at least 12 billion dollars (approximately 16.3 trillion won) in frozen Iranian assets overseas, lift sanctions on Iranian crude oil, and end the U.S. maritime blockade against Iran.
The U.S. government has not yet released an official stance on Iran's latest proposal.
However, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected the proposal.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the Arab media outlet Al Jazeera, President Pezeshkian expressed skepticism regarding negotiations with the United States.
Sharpening his tone, he said, "Because repeated U.S. attacks and sanctions have followed every negotiation in the past, we no longer trust dialogue with the United States."
He added that Qatar and Pakistan are currently mediating between Iran and the United States, conveying Iran's messages to the U.S.
