The White House plans to restrict CNN from accompanying the president on Air Force One, despite the network's press credentials being restored by a court decision, the Washington Post reported on the 25th (local time).
According to sources, the White House decided not to allow CNN reporters to board Air Force One during President Trump's visit to Knoxville, Tennessee, scheduled for the 26th.
Previously, President Trump designated three media outlets—CNN, MS Now, and Politico—as "fake news" on the 18th and announced that their access to the White House would be revoked.
In response, the affected media outlets filed for a temporary restraining order in court, arguing that the White House ban violated the First Amendment guaranteeing freedom of the press. On the 24th, the court temporarily halted the access restriction.
Consequently, the broadcast network pool, which includes CNN, resumed coverage of President Trump.
On the 25th, the first day of resumed coverage, CBS handled pool reporting duties to film an event involving President Trump related to Chinese President Xi Jinping, while CNN was in charge of pool coverage for an event held at the National Archives and Records Administration.
However, as the White House restricted CNN from accompanying Air Force One, the operation of the broadcast pool has faced uncertainty once again.
The White House did not respond to requests for comment on the reason for denying CNN's Air Force One accompaniment.
