The film "Odyssey" has achieved a remarkable feat by reclaiming the No. 1 spot at the box office in its seventh week of release.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing computer network data on the 23rd, "Odyssey" attracted 36,233 moviegoers nationwide on the 22nd, taking the top spot at the box office. Its cumulative audience stands at 11,286,770.
Having handed over the top box office spot it held for 42 days following the release of "The Intern" on the 16th, "Odyssey" recaptured the top position in just a week. However, as three new Korean films targeting the Chuseok holiday open today (the 23rd), the likelihood of "Odyssey" maintaining its No. 1 position for long is not high. Still, if it demonstrates strong staying power amidst the relay of holidays stretching through Chuseok, National Foundation Day, and Hangeul Day, surpassing 12 million moviegoers remains a possibility.
Meanwhile, "The Intern," which had maintained the top spot until the previous day, slipped to second place at the box office after drawing 33,474 viewers that day. Its cumulative audience is 471,218. With its daily audience dropping to the 30,000 range in its second week of release, even surpassing 1 million viewers has become a difficult task.
