The board of directors of the Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) is publicly recruiting candidates for its next president.
The EBS board of directors announced on September 22 that it convened a board meeting on September 18 and approved resolutions regarding the "criteria and procedures for selecting the new president."
The application window runs from September 28 to October 8 at 5:00 p.m.
In accordance with the revised Broadcasting Act, the board will operate a "Citizen Recommendation Committee for Presidential Candidates" (recommendation committee) composed of at least 150 citizens aged 18 and older for this open recruitment process.
Starting October 13, it will also launch a tentatively titled "Public Opinion Gathering Platform" to disclose applicants' information and management plans.
The board will narrow the candidates down to nine through document screening on October 30, and the candidate pool will then be reduced to six through the recommendation committee's preliminary screening on November 14.
On the same day, the recommendation committee will conduct presentations of management plans by each candidate, interviews, deliberative discussions, and a preference vote before recommending no more than three candidates to the board.
The board plans to select one finalist through a final interview on November 20 and recommend the candidate to the Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC) for appointment.
The final appointment will take place upon receiving the consent of the KMCC.
The term of office for the new president is three years.
