The Seoul Metropolitan Government has issued a special warning regarding fraudulent websites impersonating the "Seoul Citizen Safety Insurance" to trick users into entering their personal information.
The phishing site in question was discovered through a citizen complaint submitted to the "Seoul Eungdapso" (Seoul's online complaint portal).
The city has confirmed one related complaint so far and is continuing to check for additional damages and the operation of similar websites.
The identified phishing site targets citizens who access it via portal search ads or social media, mimicking a legitimate service as if the Seoul Metropolitan Government is receiving applications for safety insurance enrollment or consultation, thereby inducing users to input personal information such as their name, date of birth, and contact number.
The city urged citizens to watch out for websites demanding personal information for insurance sign-ups or consultations, noting that the Seoul Citizen Safety Insurance is a system that automatically covers all residents without requiring a separate application process.
It also advised citizens to avoid clicking links from unverified text messages, social media posts, or online advertisements, and to verify safety insurance details through official channels such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government website.
To prevent further harm to citizens, the city reported the site to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and requested an emergency access block.
In addition, the city plans to take legal action, including requesting a police investigation, against illegal activities such as local government impersonation and unauthorized collection of personal information.
"If you encounter a suspicious site, please report it immediately to the National Police Agency (112) or the Korea Internet & Security Agency (118)," said Choi Jin-seok, head of the Disaster and Safety Management Office at the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
