A woman in her 30s who is a stalking victim was apprehended by police after she armed herself with a weapon and went to her stalker's residence out of anxiety when the man failed to attend his arrest warrant hearing.
The Anyang Manan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that it is investigating woman A on preliminary murder charges.
A is accused of visiting the residence of a man in his 50s, identified as B, located in Manan-gu, Anyang, at 8:17 PM on September 21, and breaking the door handle with a pot she had brought beforehand to break in.
At the time, A was carrying a weapon, but she did not run into B, who was out, preventing any further incidents.
Investigations revealed that A committed the act after B, who was under police investigation for stalking her, failed to show up for his pre-trial detention hearing (arrest warrant review) scheduled at the court on September 21, thinking to herself, "I cannot live in this anxiety. I have to harm him myself."
The two first met by chance at a drinking gathering earlier this month.
B had been under police investigation on charges including following A to her home after the drinking gathering and damaging her window screen.
After breaking into B's home, A immediately contacted the police from the scene and turned herself in using a smartwatch for personal protection that she had been issued as a stalking victim.
Deeming that A was at high risk of self-harm or harming others due to extreme stress, the police immediately took measures for her emergency hospitalization.
