Many of you likely drive electric vehicles to your hometowns for the holidays, and this time, charging during daytime hours will save you a lot of money.
The government introduced this measure to consume surplus electricity, as renewable energy generation is high while factories are shut down due to the holiday.
For the 102,000 self-consumption chargers in homes and offices that receive power directly from KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation), electricity consumption charges will be completely waived during these hours.
As a side note, self-consumption charging fees are calculated by adding the basic fee and the electricity consumption fee separately. This time, only the electricity consumption fee is exempted, while the basic fee remains unchanged.
Normally, the electricity consumption fee per kilowatt-hour is about 85 won for low-voltage and about 80 won for high-voltage.
These fees will not be charged during the daytime hours of the holiday.
Fees for the approximately 18,000 public chargers operated by the government will be slashed in half. For a 100-kilowatt charger, the rate will drop from 348.4 won per kilowatt-hour to 174.2 won.
Private charging operators will also offer discounts, but the discount margins and methods vary by company, so the list of participating companies is scheduled to be released tomorrow (September 23).
Nineteen mobile chargers will also be deployed at eight highway service areas.
They will provide up to 20 kilowatt-hours per vehicle, prioritizing vehicles with batteries charged at 50 percent or less.
