An educational authority has launched an investigation into an infringement of teachers' rights after a middle school student, dissatisfied with school guidance, posted teachers' personal information along with profanity on social media.
According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Gyeonggi Federation of Teachers' Associations yesterday (September 21), on the evening of September 17, a first-year middle school student, A, in Gyeonggi Province posted messages on Instagram and Threads revealing the faces, names, and contact information of four teachers, including her homeroom teacher.
The posts also included abusive language such as "crazy bastard," "old bastard," "die," and "disgusting."
Educational authorities understand that the student grew dissatisfied when a teacher provided guidance regarding class transitions on the morning of the previous day, leading her to take photos of the teachers, capture parts of the videos, and write the posts.
The problematic posts were confirmed to have been deleted three days later on September 20.
Student A was reportedly previously penalized with a suspension from school during the first semester for a teacher rights violation.
It was also found that student A's parents had instead filed a child abuse complaint against the teachers.
An official from the Gyeonggi Federation of Teachers' Associations explained, "We understand that the police, after reviewing the matter, determined it was 'guidance in accordance with school rules' and informed that it could not be accepted as a case," adding, "This parent had previously reported a teacher for child abuse, but the case was 'closed before booking' as it could not be deemed abuse."
The victimized teachers appealed for suffering from the infringement of their teaching rights and requested the local education support office to convene a teacher protection committee.
Lee Sang-ho, president of the Gyeonggi Federation of Teachers' Associations, pointed out, "To not only disclose teachers' personal information and hurl abuse, but also pressure them with groundless child abuse complaints over legitimate student guidance, is an act that fundamentally shakes the legitimate educational authority of the classroom."
The provincial office of education has assigned dedicated officers for teacher protection to the affected teachers and is reviewing support measures.
