U.S. President Donald Trump has continued to emphasize his determination not to stop the accelerated development of artificial intelligence (AI), despite strong warnings from some parts of the AI industry that AI could destroy humanity.
On the 21st (local time), President Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, "We will be careful, which is why we have a Department of Justice and other law enforcement agencies to keep things in control if needed." He added, "However, I will only promote AI or SI (SUPER INTELLIGENCE)."
President Trump stated, "The people who said 'because of global warming we will all die in 12 years' are the same people who are now saying AI is going to kill us, robots are going to attack us, and everything is a disaster."
He also argued that the term "global warming" was "rebranded as climate change because the earth wasn't getting warmer, it was getting colder, and nobody died."
He added that the current human extinction theories or calls for slowing down AI development are "an even bigger scam" than the Ukraine scandal and other issues that led to his impeachment during his first term, asserting, "Whoever wins the AI race wins."
President Trump further stated, "We are currently way ahead of China or any other country, and I will keep it that way," adding, "We will not suppress the growth of something that will be bigger than the Industrial Revolution or the Internet itself."
Following concerns over the potential uncontrollability of AI—which surged after Dario Amodei, CEO of AI company Anthropic, called for a slowdown on the 12th and heads of the AI industry agreed—President Trump has repeatedly emphasized his determination for accelerated AI development almost every day since the following day, the 13th.
He has branded those advocating for a slowdown as negative forces or disgusting conspiracy theorists, expressing his stance that he will not curb AI development in order to win the AI race against China.
Over the past weekend on the 19th, he announced plans to create an "AI military," akin to the U.S. Space Command established during his first term, and stated that he would soon announce an "AI czar" to oversee it.
In particular, claiming that the term "AI" is inaccurate, he proposed three alternatives—"Superior Intelligence," "Extreme Intelligence," and "Supreme Intelligence" (all abbreviated as SI or EI)—and even launched an online poll.
