The director of a dermatology clinic who habitually administered propofol to patients who did not require anesthesia has been arrested.
Judge Lee Ji-young, the senior duty judge for warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, held a pre-trial detention hearing this morning (September 21) for a man in his 30s identified as A, who faces charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act, and issued an arrest warrant, citing "concerns over the destruction of evidence."
A, who operates a dermatology clinic in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, is accused of administering propofol to patients beyond medical purposes such as anesthesia and sedation.
Investigators found that from January of last year to August of this year, A illegally administered the drug some 360 times to about 20 patients.
The Seoul Namdaemun Police Station raided A's dermatology clinic in June to secure related materials and applied for an arrest warrant for A on September 11.
