Director Lee Chang-dong's film "Possible Love," which won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival, premiered in South Korea today (September 21).
Immediately following the domestic press screening, Director Lee stood before the press at the press conference holding the Silver Lion trophy.
Director Lee said that while winning the award at the film festival was joyful and honorable, something else was far more important to him.

"Because that Venice Film Festival venue was the very first place to meet the audience, how the audience would receive this film was much more important to me."
Roughly summarized, "Possible Love" tells the story of a laid-off large conglomerate worker couple and an affluent couple making a documentary about them.
Director Lee stated that he wanted to raise various questions that go beyond class issues.

"In a way, it seems like a story about laid-off workers, in another way it seems like a conflict between classes, and in yet another way it seems to be a matter of the ethics or attitude of filmmaking people."
By incorporating the story of a documentary director filming someone else's life, Director Lee noted that he was finally able to begin this film, adding that as a film director, he still wrestles with how genuinely he can portray another person's story.

"For creators like me who depict the lives of others, there is always the fundamental dilemma: just how much can I tell their stories as truly their own..."
Actor Jeon Do-yeon, who is currently performing in a play in New York, also attended today's press conference via video link.
Actor Jeon, who serves as the axis of the narrative development in "Possible Love," interpreted her role as follows.

"Mi-ok (played as the wife of a laid-off worker) is a figure who tries to protect the value of her family and herself from class and money."
Following theatrical screenings at select cinemas during the Chuseok holiday, "Possible Love" will be released in November on Netflix, an investor in the film.
