An incident occurred in the middle of the night on a road in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, where unidentified men blocked a vehicle and threatened the driver, but police have yet to identify the suspects after about two months.
According to the Icheon Police Station on September 21, a man in his 30s surnamed A and a passenger in his car were threatened by two men they had never met before on a road in Majang-myeon, Icheon, at 11:40 PM on July 29.
A, who had parked his car on the side of a deserted roadside and was talking with his passenger at the time, felt suspicious when an unfamiliar vehicle approached and drove away from the scene.
However, the other vehicle continued to chase A's car, blocked the front of A's car, and came to a stop.
Subsequently, two men got out and began making threats.
It was found that one of them rushed toward A's car and kicked the front part, while the other picked up and showed an object.
However, it has not been confirmed whether the object was a weapon or a blunt instrument.
Feeling threatened, A urgently turned his car around, fled the scene, reported the matter to the police, and submitted dashcam footage capturing the situation at the time.
During police questioning, A stated to the effect that "the suspects are presumed to be foreigners and I have no prior acquaintance with them."
Police conducted an investigation to track down the suspects for nearly two months, but failed to identify them and registered the case as an unsolved file in mid-September.
The reason was that there were almost no CCTVs installed near the scene of the incident, making it difficult to identify the perpetrator's vehicle.
Police initially confirmed that a Grandeur sedan, which A pointed out as the perpetrator's vehicle, was captured by a nearby crime prevention CCTV at a similar time and tracked it, but the vehicle turned out to be unrelated to the incident.
Police explained that clues for the investigation, such as the license plate of the other vehicle, were not properly captured on A's car dashcam either.
In response, he released the dashcam footage through a YouTube channel on September 18 and expressed his fear.
A police official stated, "We will resume the investigation as soon as relevant clues are secured," adding, "If the suspects are identified, we will consider applying charges of property damage and special intimidation."
