The costs incurred by the United States in the war with Iran continue to swell.
According to CNN on the 18th (local time), the U.S. Department of Defense reported to Congress that the costs poured into the war with Iran have reached 45.1 billion dollars (approx. 62.5 trillion won).
As of the 3rd, war expenditures stood at 43.6 billion dollars (approx. 60.5 trillion won), with an additional 1.5 billion dollars (approx. 2 trillion won) in fuel costs added.
This latest tally by the Department of Defense significantly exceeds the 38 billion dollars (approx. 52.7 trillion won) estimated by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) as the cost of the war up to August 1st.
The CBO stated that the majority of the war costs stem from expenditures on weapons use, such as ammunition, and projected that an additional 2 billion to 3 billion dollars (approx. 2.8 trillion to 4.2 trillion won) will be poured in every month.
Previously, the Department of Defense estimated the cost of the war with Iran at 37.5 billion dollars (approx. 52 trillion won) back in July.
However, the actual costs spent on the war are expected to be even larger.
The costs submitted by the Department of Defense to Congress do not include the restoration expenses for U.S. military bases and buildings damaged by Iranian attacks.
If combat intensifies, the costs could increase further.
Meanwhile, the CBO forecasted that the war with Iran will drive up the U.S. inflation rate in the first quarter of next year.
