The Samsung Electronics chapter of the Samsung Group's super-corporate labor union is reorganizing into a union centered around the Device Solutions (DS) division, which oversees the semiconductor business.
Following Vice Chairwoman Lee Song-yi, who belongs to the Device eXperience (DX) division, a motion to impeach Gwangju Branch Head Lee Won-il was also passed with an overwhelming approval rate of over 95%.
The motion to impeach Vice Chairwoman Lee Song-yi passed with 27,441 votes in favor (95.7%) and 1,239 against, while the motion to impeach Gwangju Branch Head Lee Won-il was also approved with 27,588 votes in favor (96.2%) and 1,092 against.
According to the "5th General Meeting Results of 2026" announced by the super-corporate union today (September 19), an amendment to the bylaws allowing only workers belonging to the DS division to join the union passed with 27,618 votes in favor (96.3%) out of 28,680 voters, with 1,062 opposing.
In this vote, which was held for four days starting from the 16th, the total number of eligible voters was 51,350, and the voter turnout was 55.9%.
With this amendment to the bylaws, the super-corporate union, which initially encompassed both the DS and DX divisions, will transition into a union centered on the DS division, and existing union members from the DX division are expected to be withdrawn from the union in accordance with the rule change.
Motions to impeach two executives belonging to the DX division, Vice Chairwoman Lee Song-yi and Branch Head Lee Won-il, were also both passed.
Previously, the super-corporate union put forward the impeachment motions against the two individuals after determining that they had leaked to the outside that Chairman Choi Seung-ho had contracted rally preparation supplies with a company operated by his father-in-law.
The union has also claimed that they discussed ways to force Chairman Choi to step down in order to block the reorganization of the organization centered around the DS division.
As a result of this general meeting, the internal conflicts within the union that had persisted over performance bonus financial resources and organizational operation directions are now taking steps toward a resolution through the DS-centered organizational reorganization.
After experiencing conflicts with other unions over the issue of integrated distribution of performance bonuses utilizing company-wide resources during this year's wage and collective agreement negotiations, the super-corporate union has maintained its stance that it will not consider joint negotiations in next year's bargaining and will instead reorganize its structure centering on the DS division.
