The cash rebate program that refunds 10% of spending when using Incheon's local currency, the E-eum Card, resumed today (September 18).
The rebate rates are set at 15% for the island regions of Ganghwa and Ongjin counties, and 10% for all other areas. Starting today, which includes the Chuseok holiday period, through the end of this month, the monthly spending limit for the rebate will be doubled from the previous 500,000 won to 1 million won.
From next month through the end of the year, a 10% cash rebate will be maintained with a monthly spending limit of 500,000 won.
Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae had suspended the cash rebate in mid-July after taking office, citing that the budget for the Incheon E-eum program had been depleted for the year. However, following intense public backlash, the decision to resume the program was made after two months through the formation of a supplementary budget and the securing of government funds.
Ahead of the Chuseok holiday when consumer spending peaks, Incheon City expects that concentrating the cash rebate benefits will help increase small business sales and stimulate the local economy.
In addition, the city plans to induce price stability by providing an additional 5% benefit on top of the existing cash rebate to citizens who use designated "Good Price Businesses."
