The South Korean sepak takraw national team has departed for the competition venue, aiming for its first gold medal at the Asian Games in 24 years.
The national sepak takraw team departed through Incheon International Airport this afternoon (September 17) to participate in the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
South Korea will compete in a total of four events in this tournament: the men's team event and quad (4-player event), alongside the women's team event and double (2-player event).
The team will begin its quest for medals starting with the opening matches of the men's and women's team events on September 20.
The national squad has continuously undergone intensive training at the Jincheon National Training Center in Chungcheongbuk-do, focusing on enhancing performance and refining tactics through joint training sessions featuring invited elite players from Thailand and overseas training camps.
In addition, the team has checked its performance levels and strengthened its adaptability in actual matches through the Sepak Takraw World Cup and World Championships held earlier this year.
Korean sepak takraw has not stood at the top of the podium since winning its sole gold medal in the men's circle event at the 2002 Busan Asian Games.
Kim Jong-heun, head coach of the men's national team, stated through the Korea Sepak Takraw Association, "As this tournament is expected to feature tough matches right from the group stage against strong opponents, it is crucial to seize the momentum early in the games. We will do our best to play with unwavering focus until the end, based on the tactics and teamwork the players have prepared."
Kwak Seong-ho, head coach of the women's national team, said, "We face intense matches in both the team and double events. We will make sure the players confidently showcase the results of their hard work in training and maintain their concentration until the very last moment."
