The Korea Sports Promotion Foundation held a ceremony at the Seoul Olympic Parktel in Songpa-gu, Seoul, today (17th) to mark the 38th anniversary of the 1988 Seoul Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Around 400 people attended the event, including Chairman Ha Hyung-joo, executives and employees of the sports foundation, and figures from the Seoul Olympic and Paralympic organizing committees and volunteer associations.
During the ceremony, commemorative plaques were awarded to the late Kim Jip, former Minister of Sports who led the South Korean national team as the chef de mission during the Seoul Olympics, the late Go Gwi-nam, chairman of the Seoul Paralympic Organizing Committee who led the successful hosting of the event through dedicated efforts, and Kim I-jung, head of the central headquarters of the Korean Residents Union in Japan (Mindan).
Following this, an awards ceremony was held for the '88 Seoul Olympic and Paralympic Photo Contest', which ran for about two months starting in July.
The grand prize went to Lee Chul-hee, who submitted a photo titled "A National Wheelchair Athlete Became My Older Sister," which captures memories of his time volunteering during the Seoul Paralympics.
Prior to the awards ceremony, generative artificial intelligence (AI) was used to create and showcase moving content that brought the people and scenes in the 13 winning photographs to life.
A scholarship award ceremony followed for the children of Mindan members in Japan, who had raised donations to help successfully host their homeland's first Olympic and Paralympic Games.
A total of 100 million won in scholarships was awarded to 21 university students studying in their motherland.
