Due to a remarkably early flu outbreak this year, health authorities are advancing the national vaccination schedule by up to a week.
Following the schedule changes, children aged 6 months to 14 years who require a single dose can get vaccinated starting on the 21st, a week earlier than the previous date of September 28.
For children who require two doses, vaccinations can proceed from September 21 as originally planned.
Among elderly groups, those aged 75 and older can get vaccinated starting October 6, six days earlier than originally planned; those aged 70 to 74 can do so on October 12, three days earlier; and those aged 65 to 69 can receive the vaccine on October 15, four days earlier.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) plans to begin vaccinations for nursing hospitals and facilities where high-risk seniors live collectively as soon as the vaccines are supplied.
To support this national vaccination program, the KDCA has secured approximately 12.33 million doses of the influenza vaccine and plans to supply them sequentially to medical institutions according to the adjusted schedule.
According to the KDCA, the proportion of suspected influenza patients at clinic-level medical institutions in the 36th week of the year stood at 25.3 per 1,000 outpatients, exceeding the epidemic threshold of 12.9 for this season, prompting the issuance of an influenza advisory on the 11th.
National vaccinations can be received at nearby contracted medical institutions and public health centers regardless of one's residential address.
