Some standing committees of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, which is currently facing financial difficulties, have reportedly scheduled their work reports in Jeju Island, triggering controversy.
It has been learned that two standing committees, the Economic, Labor and Employment Committee and the Health and Welfare Committee, plan to conduct work reports and policy meetings over a 2-day, 3-night schedule in Jeju Island next month.
It was already confirmed that the Education Planning Committee carried out its work reports and field visit schedule in Jeju Island early this month.
The issue is that the Gyeonggi provincial government has embarked on restructuring expenditures exceeding 500 billion won due to financial difficulties.
On the anonymous bulletin board within the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, criticisms have continued, such as, "Why a 2-day, 3-night trip to Jeju when we are in a fiscal emergency?" and "Do work reports really have to be received at a resort?"
An official from one standing committee explained that while it is true they are reviewing the Jeju itinerary for communication among assembly members and workshops, nothing has been finalized yet.
