The Ministry of Education announced that it is establishing remedial procedures regarding system disruptions that occurred during the application period for early admissions for the 2027 academic year.
In a press release yesterday (the 15th), the Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education (KCUE) explained, "We are proceeding with measures under the principle that test-takers who failed to properly submit their applications due to system glitches will be accommodated based on objective electronic data, but unfair cases will not be recognized."
The ministry added, "It was tallied that about 1,200 test-takers failed to complete their applications even after the deadline extension," but noted that "the actual number of accommodated applicants is expected to be smaller" as the eligibility criteria will be strictly applied.
Those eligible for relief are applicants with error logs at 5:50 p.m. when the system disruption occurred, and applicants who have application histories—such as drafting, saving, submitting, or attempting to pay the application fee—at the universities to which they applied for relief.
If there are multiple application histories, only the application last drafted or modified will be recognized.
In addition, the ministry stated that among the universities that extended their application deadlines due to this system disruption, a total of 17 universities were found to have disclosed their competition rates as of 6 p.m. on the 11th, which was the original deadline.
The Ministry of Education and the KCUE, which are currently reviewing cases submitted to these 17 universities during the extended time after the competition rates were made public, plan to discuss with the universities and consider measures such as canceling applications for suspicious cases.
Previously, around 5:50 p.m. on the 11th, a system failure occurred at UwayApply, an application agency, causing errors that prevented some test-takers from properly saving and submitting applications, as well as paying screening fees.
Some universities that were originally scheduled to close their application process at 6 p.m. that day extended their deadlines to 7 p.m. During this process, situations arose where additional applications were accepted even at universities that had already disclosed their competition rates, sparking fairness controversies primarily among applicants who had submitted their applications earlier.
