The Seoul City Bus Labor Union will go on strike, halting operations starting from the first buses early morning on September 16.
The labor and management of Seoul city buses held their second mediation meeting for labor dispute arbitration at the Seoul Regional Labor Relations Commission in Yeongdeungpo-gu starting at 2 p.m. today.
However, the two sides failed to find common ground through eight hours of mediation, and the proceedings ultimately broke down at around 10 p.m.
The union plans to launch its general strike as scheduled starting at 4 a.m. tomorrow.
Previously, approximately 7,000 city buses operated across about 390 routes run by 64 companies in Seoul.
In response to the strike, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will implement emergency transportation measures, including deploying up to 1,500 free shuttle buses (chartered buses) running between subway stations and increasing the frequency of subway operations during peak commuting hours.
