Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will visit China on September 16, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry made the announcement on its website today (September 15), explaining that Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs and Chinese Foreign Minister, will hold talks with Minister Araghchi.
As the Iranian foreign minister's visit comes one week ahead of the US-China summit scheduled for September 24, observers speculate that China and Iran will coordinate their stances in advance regarding the US-Iran war.
Minister Araghchi previously visited Beijing one week before the US-China summit in Beijing in May of this year, where he explained the status of negotiations with the U.S. and Iran's future plans while demonstrating solidarity with China.
The two officials also met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Kyrgyzstan in July.
At the time, regarding the memorandum of understanding on ending the war between the U.S. and Iran, Minister Wang urged its implementation and negotiation, stating that it was "a precious achievement attained through the mediation of multiple parties and embodies the peaceful expectations of the people of Iran and the Middle East to stop the war and achieve stability."
Minister Araghchi emphasized that "Iran's willingness to negotiate has never changed and we do not want the conflict to continue," while adding that tensions have escalated because the U.S. violated the memorandum of understanding.
