▲ Fire at an Apartment in Buan, Jeollabuk-do
A fire broke out at an apartment in Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do, resulting in the death of a mother in her 40s and severe injuries to her 7-year-old son.
The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Fire Headquarters stated that the fire broke out at around 12:56 a.m. today (the 13th) on the third floor of an apartment in Buan-eup, Buan-gun.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 50 minutes, but during a subsequent search of the interior, a woman in her 40s who lived in the affected unit was found dead.
The woman's 7-year-old son sustained second-degree burns on his arms and other parts of his body and was rescued from the apartment flowerbed, and is currently receiving hospital treatment.
The fire burned 76 square meters of household goods and other items inside the apartment, causing an estimated 65 million won in property damage, while 20 residents evacuated on their own.
The police and fire authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire through a joint inspection today.
