The Democratic Party of Korea announced today (the 11th) that it is urgently gathering evaluations and opinions from both inside and outside the party, centered around the leadership, regarding the future of Minister of Gender Equality and Family nominee Yong Hye-in.
Meeting with reporters following a Supreme Council meeting held at the North Chungcheong Provincial Government building today, Senior Spokesperson Park Sung-joon was asked whether the party plans to convey its stance to the Blue House, to which he responded that the party will view nominee Yong strictly from the public's perspective.
When asked whether this stance came from the closed-door Supreme Council meeting, Spokesperson Park asked for the statement to be taken as it is.
The Democratic Party's stance comes just a day after nominee Yong held a press conference yesterday to refute controversies regarding preferential treatment and the instrumentalization of the party for private interests.
Following nominee Yong's declaration, voices calling for her to make the resolute decision to step down as a candidate are growing louder within the Democratic Party.
This stems from the judgment that, amid considerable public criticism against nominee Yong, she has effectively crossed the line by merely appealing her grievances.
During the public remarks at today's meeting, Party Leader Kim Min-seok stated that the confirmation hearing for Minister of Justice nominee Kim Seung-won could proceed stably, but made no mention of nominee Yong.
Initially, the Blue House maintained the position that a clarification process through a confirmation hearing is necessary even for nominee Yong.
However, with the Democratic Party initiating an emergency opinion-gathering process, projections are emerging that these opinions will soon be conveyed to the Blue House, potentially initiating steps to resolve nominee Yong's future before the National Assembly confirmation hearings.
