Director Hong Sang-soo's 35th feature film and new project starring actor Kim Min-hee, "No Place to Hide," has released its poster and trailer.
In the released poster, Kim Min-hee is seen sitting comfortably in a hammock with her eyes closed. The roughly one-minute trailer features Kim Min-hee quietly walking along a Jeju Island stone wall path without background music, accompanied by her voiceover. She says, "I went out for a walk to see the pond before leaving. It was a day with clear air and a pleasant mood."
"No Place to Hide" tells the story of Sang-hee (played by Kim Min-hee), who has spent most of her time with her grandparents after her parents' divorce, as she goes to visit her mother who has settled in Jeju Island with her younger brother. Spending two nights and three days together with her mother whom she faces after ten years, her stepfather who is a documentary director, and her half-brother who has just started painting, unknown facts, hard-to-accept advice, and cheap praise are exchanged. The running time is 72 minutes.
Kim Min-hee stars as Sang-hee, alongside Choi Myung-gil, Kwon Hae-hyo, Shin Seok-ho, and Park Mi-so. Director Hong Sang-soo took charge of production, screenplay, direction, cinematography, sound, editing, and music, while Kim Min-hee was also credited as production manager.
The film was invited to the international competition section of the 79th Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Best Director award, the Best Performance award (Kim Min-hee), and the Ecumenical Jury Prize.
Explaining the reason for selecting him for the Best Director award, the jury stated, "When supreme mastery in handling all elements of film meets ultimate freedom, ultimate simplicity, and ultimate intelligence, the result is a fascinating and deeply inspiring fable that questions our relationship with the world, art, others, and ourselves." Regarding Kim Min-hee, they described her as "an actor capable of expressing all facets of human existence with grace and delicacy," explaining the background of her winning her second Best Performance award.
Previously, attending the screening and audience Q&A session at the Locarno Film Festival held on August 13 (local time), Kim Min-hee explained, "Even while filming, the baby came along to the set, so I had to breastfeed and make baby food. I was extremely busy, waking up first to finish all preparations for the baby before preparing for the film. My attitude changed from previously deciding and resolving to immerse myself only in film, to a very healthy mindset of naturally finishing all preparations for the baby and then doing my absolute best for the film."
"No Place to Hide" is set to be released domestically on October 21.
