A public opinion poll released today (the 10th) showed that more than half of the respondents opposed the appointment of Yong Hye-in as Minister of Gender Equality and Family and Kim Seung-won as Minister of Justice.
According to the survey conducted by Media Tomato commissioned by News Tomato on the 7th and 8th, 73.4% of total respondents answered that they "oppose" the appointment of Basic Income Party lawmaker Yong Hye-in as Minister of Gender Equality and Family.
Those who said they "approve" accounted for 18.4%, while 8.3% answered "don't know."
Opposition opinions prevailed outside the margin of error regardless of gender, age, region, or political orientation.
In particular, opposition to the appointment exceeded 80% among those in their 30s. Regionally, opposition surpassed 60% across all areas, including Honam (67.2%), which is considered a stronghold of the ruling bloc.
Among independents, opposition to the appointment exceeded 70%, and even among progressives, opposition stood at over 60%.
Among supporters of the Democratic Party, 54.2%—more than half—opposed candidate Yong's appointment, and supporters of the Rebuilding Korea Party (64.7%) also showed a higher percentage of opposition.
To the question regarding approval or opposition to the appointment of Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Seung-won as Minister of Justice, "opposition" also exceeded half at 55.7%.
Those who said "approve" accounted for 30.7%, and "don't know" stood at 13.6%.
Even among those in their 40s and 50s, whose age groups show a clear propensity to support the ruling bloc, more than half opposed the appointment.
Among those in their 30s, opposition response was the highest among all age groups at 67%.
Opposition to the appointment led across all regions, and even in Honam (40.1% approval vs. 45.8% opposition), opposition was higher within the margin of error.
Except for Daegu and Gyeongbuk (65.9%) and Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (62.6%), where conservative support is strong, opposition was highest in Seoul (57.2%).
Among independents, 56.4%—more than half—opposed candidate Kim's appointment.
Among progressives, while approval was high at 48.5%, opposition was tallied at 34.2%.
Those who chose "don't know" accounted for 17.2%.
However, among Democratic Party supporters, 65.1% answered that they approved of the appointment.
Among Rebuilding Korea Party supporters, approval and opposition were closely matched at 40.5% and 42.9%, respectively.
The poll was conducted targeting 1,035 adults aged 18 and older nationwide, with a sampling error of ±3.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
It was conducted via ARS (RDD) wireless phone method, with a response rate of 2.4%.
