South Korea suffered a heavy defeat against Ghana in their second group stage match of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) U-20 Women's World Cup, dropping to the bottom of their group.
Coached by Park Yoon-jung, South Korea lost 1-3 to Ghana in the second Group C match of the group stage held at Arena Sosnowiec in Sosnowiec, Poland.
Having drawn 1-1 with France in their opening match, South Korea sits at the bottom of the group in fourth place with one draw and one loss.
Ghana, which lost 0-3 to Ecuador in its first match, defeated South Korea to secure 3 points and climbed to second place.
In this tournament, 24 countries are divided into six groups for the group stage, after which the top two teams from each group and the four best third-place teams advance to the round of 16 to compete for the championship.
South Korea will play its final third match against Ecuador on the 13th.
After ending the first half in a 0-0 scoreless tie, the national team conceded the opening goal to Nyarko in the 7th minute of the second half and fell behind.
South Korea, having surrendered control to a physically strong and athletic Ghana team and showing defensive instability, conceded a second goal in the 10th minute of the second half after losing a duel to Ivy Osei Owusu, followed by a mid-range shot from the right.
In the 39th minute of the second half, during a Ghanaian counterattack, South Korea failed to contain Ruth Amponsah and conceded a decisive third goal.
The lone consolation for South Korea was Bum Ye-ju (Gwangyang Girls' High School) salvaging a goal with a surprise right-footed mid-range shot during added time.
