Jacob Misiorowski (24), the hard-throwing pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers in Major League Baseball (MLB), has set an unprecedented record by throwing 1,000 pitches of 100 mph (approx. 160.9 km/h) or faster in a single season.
Starting the home game against the Chicago Cubs at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the 9th (Korean time), Misiorowski pitched 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9 batters.
Although he did not earn the win, he lowered his ERA to 1.95, which ranks first overall in MLB, and increased his league-leading strikeouts to 236.
Most notably, he reached the milestone of 1,000 pitches over 100 mph this season during the 3rd inning.
According to MLB.com, Misiorowski is the first pitcher to throw 1,000 pitches of 100 mph or faster in a single season since pitch-tracking data began being recorded in 2008.
After the game, he said, "It doesn't really feel like much. That's just how I throw. I don't really know what to say. It's cool, but I'll probably look back on it when my career is over. Right now, this is just what I do. I throw hard, and hitters expect it."
His four-seam fastball averaged 100.7 mph (approx. 162.1 km/h) on this day, which was 0.1 mph faster than his season average.
Milwaukee defeated the Cubs 4-3 after a 10-inning battle.
