A man in his 30s who brutally killed stray cats under the pretext of "relieving stress" has received a prison sentence with a suspended execution.
The Ulsan District Court announced today (September 9) that Judge Kim Jung-jin, presiding over Criminal Division 8, sentenced a defendant identified as A, who was on trial for violating the Animal Protection Act, to six months in prison suspended for two years.
The court also ordered A to perform 200 hours of community service and complete 40 hours of lectures on animal abuse prevention.
In January of this year, A set up a trap near his home in Nam-gu, Ulsan, in the early morning hours and caught a stray cat.
A then took the cat to his home, slamming it repeatedly onto the bathroom floor and forcing it to ingest bleach, causing its death.
It was revealed that A killed a total of four stray cats using similar methods over a period of about two months.
Not stopping there, A blatantly shared the facts of the cat abuse in open chat rooms and posted messages stating, "It relieved my stress."
An animal protection organization discovered this and tracked down A alongside the police to apprehend him.
The court stated its reasoning for the sentencing: "The nature of the crime is poor as the captured cats were killed in a cruel manner. However, we took into consideration that the defendant has no prior criminal record and is showing remorse."
