The man in his 30s at the center of the so-called "Suwon drug video," who went viral for staggering with a hunched back, is facing a substantive warrant hearing on charges including the possession of methamphetamine.
The Suwon District Court will hold a pre-trial detention hearing tomorrow (September 9) for a suspect identified as Mr. A, who is accused of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
Mr. A is suspected of possessing a small amount of methamphetamine at his residence and receiving and administering psychotropic drugs from an acquaintance.
Previously, on June 22, footage of Mr. A staggering near a bus stop in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, with a hunched back and his arms hanging limp, spread online, raising suspicions of drug use.
He was initially arrested after testing positive in a preliminary drug screening, but was released after a urine test came back negative. He has since been investigated by the police without detention after hair analysis by the National Forensic Service returned a positive result.
Hair testing is known to be capable of detecting past drug use dating back up to a year.
Police secured additional charges, including discovering a small amount of methamphetamine during a search of Mr. A's residence, and requested a pre-trial detention warrant on the 4th.
Mr. A is reportedly denying some of the allegations.
Police plan to continue their supplementary investigation once a decision is made regarding Mr. A's detention.
