Defending men's and women's singles tennis champions Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka have both advanced to the round of 16 at the 2026 US Open.
Alcaraz easily defeated China's Wu Yibing 3-0 in 2 hours and 19 minutes during the men's singles third round on the sixth day of the tournament at Flushing Meadows in New York, USA.
Alcaraz, who clinched consecutive titles at last year's US Open and this year's Australian Open, is aiming for his second straight tournament title and third career championship. He will face Tommy Paul (USA) in the round of 16.
After the match, Alcaraz said, "I played aggressively and smartly even in difficult moments," adding, "I could have done better, but overall I am proud of my performance today and very satisfied."
In the women's singles, world number one Sabalenka defeated Kamilla Rakhimova of Uzbekistan 2-0.
Sabalenka played a dominant match, hitting 10 service aces.
Seeking to become the first female player to win three consecutive US Open singles titles since Serena Williams (USA) from 2012 to 2014, Sabalenka will face Taylor Townsend in the round of 16.
