The Korean Financial Industry Union declared a general strike for today (September 4) and began a large-scale rally starting at 11:30 a.m. around Sejong-daero in Gwanghwamun, Seoul.
The core issue is to block the government's push to relocate policy banks and public financial institutions—such as the Korea Development Bank, Industrial Bank of Korea, and the Export-Import Bank of Korea—to provincial regions.
The union is also demanding the introduction of a 4.5-day workweek, expansion of youth hiring, extension of the retirement age, and improvement of the peak-wage system.
