President Lee Jae-myung will pay a state visit to France from September 6 to 9 at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
National Security Office Director Wi Sung-lak stated that the visit follows an invitation extended by President Macron during his visit to South Korea last April, where he asked President Lee to serve as the co-chair of the "Lumière Summit," an international film and video summit to be held in France.
President Lee will arrive locally on the afternoon of September 6 and attend the Lumière Summit alongside President Macron in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, southern France, the following day on September 7 as co-chair.
Starting September 8, he will embark on a two-day state bilateral visit schedule in Paris.
As his first schedule, President Lee will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe, attend an official welcoming ceremony hosted by the French government, and subsequently hold a private luncheon with President Macron at the Élysée Palace.
Afterward, an expanded summit attended by delegations from both countries is scheduled.
On the same day, President Lee is scheduled to attend the South Korea-France Business Roundtable featuring some 20 companies from both nations, followed in the evening by a state dinner hosted by President and Mrs. Macron at the Élysée Palace.
On September 9, the final day of his visit, he plans to meet with Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the French National Assembly, followed by a luncheon meeting with local Korean residents and an audience with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann.
Director Wi remarked, "This visit will serve as an opportunity to deepen the Global Strategic Partnership with France and add new momentum to the expansion of our diplomacy toward Europe."
He further emphasized, "We will expand cooperation in cutting-edge technology sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), aerospace, nuclear energy, and biotechnology with France, a leader in future industries, while vitalizing exchanges in youth and science-technology fields," adding, "As the co-chair nation of the Lumière Summit, we will lead discussions on the future of the global film and video industry and expand the foothold for K-content to advance into the European market."
