▲ Lee Jung-hoo hits a double
San Francisco Giants' South Korean major leaguer Lee Jung-hoo, who had been silenced without a hit in his previous three games, finally delivered a refreshing extra-base hit.
Coming off the bench as a pinch hitter in an away game against the Pittsburgh Pirates held at PNC Park on the 4th (Korean time), Lee recorded 1 hit and 1 RBI in 2 at-bats.
Notching his first hit in four games since the Arizona Diamondbacks match on the 30th of last month, Lee raised his season batting average to 0.283.
Lee had been silent with no hits in 14 at-bats over his previous three games, causing his batting average to drop from 0.291 down to 0.282, which ultimately led to him being left out of the starting lineup for this game.
Stepping up as a pinch hitter with no outs and runners on first and second in the top of the 7th inning while his team was trailing 4-0, Lee hammered the first pitch from Pittsburgh right-hander Cristian Curtiss—a fastball clocked at 153.7 km/h—driving an RBI double down the right-field line.
Timing his swing perfectly against a fastball hugging the inside edge of the strike zone, he produced a powerful batted ball traveling at 152.2 km/h.
In his second plate appearance with two outs and nobody on in the top of the 9th inning with the team down 5-2, Lee grounded out to first base to bring the game to an end.
Although Lee did his part by accounting for one of the team's two hits on the day, he could not prevent the team's defeat.
With a season record of 58 wins and 83 losses, the Giants maintained their fourth-place standing in the National League West.
