▲ OpenAI, Grok, and Claude Outages
Major artificial intelligence (AI) services, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok, experienced simultaneous disruptions as connections became unstable, causing inconvenience for users.
According to Downdetector, an online service outage tracking website, OpenAI's ChatGPT began experiencing connection instability around 10:20 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time, with 37,000 outage reports filed around 11:00 a.m. (midnight on September 4, Korea time).
Anthropic's Claude and SpaceX AI's Grok also experienced similar connection failures around the same time.
The simultaneous outages were mostly resolved after about an hour, and services began to stabilize.
OpenAI announced through its status page that the issue involving an increase in errors with ChatGPT and Codex had been resolved. Anthropic stated that a widespread connection error had been detected, an emergency patch was applied, and all issues had been resolved.
Grok also announced that its service had returned to normal.
While glitches in AI services happen occasionally, experiencing them all at the exact same time is unusual.
Although the exact cause of the outage has not been clearly identified, some speculate that it may have been linked to an issue with Microsoft's (MS) cloud service, Azure.
Some users reported that Google's AI service, Gemini, also experienced an outage around the same time, but Google did not issue an official outage notice that day.
