A incumbent civil servant husband who tracked down his wife—who had relocated to escape domestic violence—using the address listed on divorce papers and brutally murdered her in front of their young child is undergoing a warrant hearing today (the 3rd).
The Suwon District Court's Seongnam Branch will hold a pre-trial detention hearing (warrant hearing) at 11:00 a.m. today for the husband in his 30s, identified as A, who faces charges of murder and violations of the Child Welfare Act (child abuse).
A decision on whether to detain A is expected to be made later this afternoon.
Earlier today at 9:55 a.m., A emerged from the Bundang Police Station wearing a mask and a hat, and boarded a transport vehicle headed to the Suwon District Court's Seongnam Branch.
He remained silent in response to reporters' questions, such as "Why did you kill your wife?", "Didn't you think of anything while your daughter was watching?", "Why did you routinely assault or threaten your wife?", and "Do you have anything to say to the bereaved family?"
A, a public official, is accused of fatally stabbing his wife in her 30s with a weapon at around 7:17 a.m. on the 1st in the stairwell of a multi-family housing building in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, where she had taken refuge from domestic violence.
At the time, A committed the crime at a scene where their young child was present, leading to additional charges of emotional child abuse.
Police investigations revealed that A held a grudge, believing he would face an unfavorable outcome in the divorce lawsuit filed by his wife, and tracked her down using the address written on the divorce papers to commit the crime.
Police urgently arrested him about 4 hours and 20 minutes after the crime occurred, and applied for an arrest warrant the following day on the 2nd.
