Budget for Presidential Office in Sejong Jumps from 2.5 Billion to 205.7 Billion Won Next Year, Raising Expectations for Full-Scale Construction

Sejong City announced yesterday (September 2) that the government's budget proposal for next year reflects 1.8383 trillion won in funding related to the city.

This is an increase of 106.3 billion won compared to this year's government budget.

Sejong City explained that more than 300 billion won in state funds has been secured for the Presidential Office in Sejong and the National Assembly Sejong Building, alongside a wide range of project costs for culture, transportation, and the environment directly tied to citizens' lives.

As administrative capital-related budgets, 119.1 billion won was allocated for the construction of the National Assembly Sejong Building and 205.7 billion won for the construction of the Presidential Office in Sejong.

Sejong City assessed that with the budget for the Presidential Office in Sejong surging from 2.5 billion won this year to over 200 billion won next year, a foundation has been established to push the project forward in earnest.

In addition, the city projected that the expansion of key national facilities will gain momentum, with allocations such as 5.8 billion won for the construction of the Sejong District Court and 38.4 billion won for the Sejong Provincial Police Agency and Special Operations Unit.

Furthermore, the government's budget proposal for next year includes 1.5 billion won for the construction of the National Recruitment Center, 11.6 billion won for the creation of the smart city national pilot district, 69.8 billion won for the construction of the National Museum Complex, 35.7 billion won for the relocation and construction of the National Folk Museum, and 8.4 billion won for the construction of the UNESCO International Center for Interpretation and Information.

It was also reported that final consultations among relevant ministries are underway regarding a plan to change the alternative construction site for the National Museum of Korean Women's History to Sejong City.

The city expects that once the National Museum Complex is completed, it will serve as an opportunity for Sejong City to grow beyond an administrative city into a cultural and tourism hub.

For living and environmental sector projects directly linked to citizens' daily lives, the budget proposal includes 17.1 billion won for the expansion of sewage treatment facilities and water quality improvement, and 10.5 billion won for the establishment of an urban transportation model project.
