The Gwangju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced yesterday (September 1) that it has secured such a statement from A, a public official in his 30s arrested on murder charges, and plans to apply for an arrest warrant.
A reportedly stated regarding his motive, "After recently receiving the divorce papers, I harbored a grudge thinking that I would face unfavorable outcomes in overall matters, including alimony, division of property, custody, and child support."
A is suspected of stabbing and killing his wife, B, with a weapon on the stairs of a multi-family housing building in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, at 7:17 a.m. on the same day.
Investigations revealed that A checked his wife's current residence listed in the divorce complaint, waited for her on the stairs around her commuting time, and carried out the crime.
B had fled to a residence in Gwangju where her family lives to escape her husband's violence.
Stabbing victim B used a smart watch to make an emergency call and was transported to a hospital, but ultimately died.
A young child who was with her at the scene also suffered abrasions on a finger.
It was confirmed that A had been reported for domestic violence four times from March of last year until recently, and was referred to the prosecution on related charges last June.
Police are conducting further investigations into A regarding the specific circumstances, including whether the crime was premeditated.
