The Incheon Metropolitan Council has urged the government to include the extension of the Daejang-Hongdae Line to Cheongna and the Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX) Line D in the national railway plan to expand transportation infrastructure in northwestern Incheon.
During a resolution rally held at the city council plenary chamber today, Incheon city councilors stated, "The government's 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan, which was originally scheduled to be announced in June of last year, has been delayed for over a year." They demanded, "The government should reflect these two projects, which are long-cherished wishes of Incheon citizens, in the plan and promote them swiftly."
The city council expects that extending the Daejang-Hongdae Line—a metropolitan railway connecting Hongik University Station in Seoul and the Daejang New Town in Bucheon—to Cheongna in Incheon will greatly contribute to resolving transportation issues and fostering balanced regional development.
The GTX-D "Y-shaped" line runs from Incheon International Airport through Cheongna and Gajeong in Incheon to southern parts of the capital area, including Samseong Station in Seoul.
The Incheon City Council plans to process the "Resolution Urging the Inclusion of the Seoul Line 2 (Daejang-Hongdae Line) Cheongna Extension and GTX-D Line in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan" during the extraordinary session to be held this month.
