Actor Hayoung Steps Down from Upcoming 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' Amid Great-Grandfather's Pro-Japanese Controversy

Actor Hayoung, who faced allegations regarding the pro-Japanese activities of her great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho, is stepping down from her upcoming role in the new season of "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call."

Netflix announced today, "Out of respect for the actor's position, Hayoung has decided not to appear in the sequel to 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.'"

The Netflix series "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" is a drama depicting the lively exploits of a genius doctor who saves lives with a single scalpel. Hayoung gained recognition by playing a severe trauma team nurse in Season 1 last year and was scheduled to appear in the sequel alongside Ju Ji-hoon, Choo Young Woo, and others.

After Hayoung revealed on the KBS 2TV variety show "Rooftop Room Problems" last month that she comes from a four-generation family of doctors, it became known that her great-grandfather was Ahn Sang-ho (1872–1927), who worked as a doctor during the Japanese colonial period, raising suspicions of pro-Japanese activities during that time.

Hayoung apologized, saying, "While personally searching through related materials, I learned of my great-grandfather's pro-Japanese actions. I deeply regret having casually mentioned my family history without properly understanding our nation's history, marked by the painful era of Japanese colonial rule." She added, "I take those mistakes heavily and sincerely apologize as a descendant."

However, demands poured in for Hayoung to step down from new dramas she had already filmed or was scheduled to film.
